This gospel song was performed by the “Selected by God” choir, who was also featured in the “Born of Fire” Super Bowl Commercial released earlier this year.

The editors of Esquire Magazine wanted to dream a bit, so they selected seven cars they want in their driveways — the “Third Car,” they called it. “Maybe not practical, but sometimes that’s the point,” the editors said. Three of their picks were Chrysler Group vehicles. They selected:

2011 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Sahara “because men belong out-side, and outside nothing else feels quite right.” Decades after its debut, the Jeep Wrangler remains essentially unchanged, the magazine said. It may not be the ideal commuter car, but there’s a charm here, a distinctly American sense of purpose, the magazine said.

2012 Fiat 500 “because city driving can once again be a thrilling joy.” Buried in the Fiat’s 90.6-inch wheel-base is a giddy, manic soul, Es-quire’s editors said. “What we have here is cask-strength chutzpah — grippy suspension and sticky tires and guts, guts, guts,” the article said. “This is a sports car without the big engine, a live-wire fuel-sipper (38/30 mpg) that lives to snarf up corners and be hurled through otherwise impossible traffic,” Es-quire said.

2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman “because every man needs a truck.” Trucks are tools, and tools aren’t supposed to be flashy, Es-quire said. “By that measure, the HEMI® V-8-powered Ram Tradesman is the best pickup on the market,” the magazine said. We have a report for you written by the NY Times about one of the most “remarkable” turnarounds American history has ever seen:

“In what surely ranks as one of the most remarkable turnarounds in the annals of American business history, (last) week Chrysler reported adjusted net income of $181 million and a 30 percent rise in revenue, to $13.7 billion, even in a still-soft global car market,” the New York Times said.

The Times noted Chrysler Group’s market share has grown to 10.6 percent from under 6 percent following its June sales report.

The Detroit News reported a new management structure for Fiat and Chrysler Group was announced. The joint leader-ship structure is designed to “ensure speed, clarity of direction and unity of purpose,” Chrysler Group CEO Sergio Marchionne said. “When two enterprises integrate, they share everything: industrial re-sources and know-how, projects and targets, challenges and ambitions.”

A Detroit Free Press article asked: Why should we think the merger-in-progress of Chrysler and Fiat will work out any better than the ill-fated marriage of Daimler and Chrysler? Or any better than the purchase by private equity outfit Cerberus, which ended in bankruptcy and bailout?

Dan Knott, Chrysler’s top purchasing executive put it like this, the paper said. “When I need a decision from Sergio, it comes at lightning speed, where before it would take months.”

Maybe this time it really will be a “Merger of Equals,” columnist Dan Howes of the Detroit News wrote.

This time it feels different because it is different, Howes added. “Chrysler may actually have a leadership team with the confidence to respect its capabilities, the vision to see its possibilities and the maturity to know the difference,” Howes wrote.
